It's no wonder people do not know what to believe with the way the Alexandrian (Egyptian) translations change the context of scripture in this chapter of Jeremiah 3
Although Most of the Alexandrian translations do not go so far as to put “The Lord says” at the beginning of verse one, they infer that it is the Lord commanding because these translations remove "They say" from the first of the verse, and with an ending of “the Lord says” at the end of the verse it seems like it is all a command of God. By removing the “They say” part a person does not know that part of what is said here is by someone other than God.

Also the Alexandrian translations add “you want to” to “return to me” in verse one. Then in verse 7 they change the word “I said” to “I thought” and added “she will” to “return to me”. But God repeats the command to RETURN 3 more times in verses 12, 14, & 20-22. In these 3 verses all the Alexandrian translations say return. So why do they change what God says in verses 1 and 7. It makes God sound like he cannot makeup his mind.
What is the problem? Can’t God make up his mind? Is a Wife to return to her 1st husband or not? Any other marriage while a womans husband is alive is only adultery and therefore not a marriage at all. SO yes she is to return to her husband.
Then one more thing here the Alexandrian translations change “married” meaning (still husband to), and meaning something more in line with marriage that this passage is talking about. But, They change it to “master” A word having a much wider meaning and less to do with marriage. And even though he divorced Israel in verse 8 (Even in all the Alexandrian translations) Then in verse 14 he says he is married to Israel but you can’t see that with the Alexandrian translations changing “married” to “master”
Look at these examples of Alexandrian (Egyptian) translations
Jeremiah 3 The Lord says, “If a man divorces his wife, and she leaves him and becomes another man’s wife, he cannot take her back again. This would completely defile the land. But, Israel, you have had many lovers, and now you want to return to me! (Good News Bible)
(Good News Bible translation says: God says No! But Israel wants to return???)
KJV:1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
(KJV says: Others say she connot return! BUT God says return! A Command to return.)
NAB: 7 And I thought, after she has done all this she will return to me. But she did not return. (A thought)
KJV: 7 And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. (2nd time A command to return )
NAB: 12 Go, proclaim these words toward the north, and say: Return, rebel Israel, says the LORD,
KJV: 12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; (NOW this third time the command to return is given the Alexandrian translations agree with the received text translations)
NAB: 14 Return, rebellious children, says the LORD, for I am your Master; (more meaning I own you)
KJV: 14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: (more in line with Husband and marriage that this passage is talking about, it is not about a master slave relationship)
(This is NOW the 4th time the command to return is given the Alexandrian translations agree with the received text translations)
NAB: 20 But like a woman faithless to her lover, even so have you been faithless to me, O house of Israel, says the LORD. 21 A cry is heard on the heights! the plaintive weeping of Israel’s children,
Because they have perverted their ways and forgotten the LORD, their God.
22 Return, rebellious children, and I will cure you of your rebelling.Jeremiah 3 (New American Bible)
(This is NOW the 5th time the command to return is given the Alexandrian translations agree with the received text translations)
And they do the same thing with Malachi 2: 14-16. IS it any wonder people do not know what to believe?
Here are 5 more verses, everything underlined is not in Alexandrian (Egyptian) based bibles. Do these verses say the same things without the underlined part? The words in red are words Jesus said, OR did he say them or not???
Luke 4:4 …It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, (and deleted is) but by every word of God. (Without the last part of the verse one is left to wonder what we need besides bread.)
Mark 10:24 ...Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
( This verse is saying it is very hard for everyone to enter heaven if you delete them that trust in riches .)
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
(are these words of Jesus important? Does it say the same thing without them?)
LK 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. (This whole verse is GONE. Are these underlined deleted wordes important or not?)
